Thanks to all of you who came to our concerts this week. The performances were outstanding. The students should be really proud of themselves. A big thank you to all of the staff and parents who helped out in the organization. We are really looking forward to our last kindergarten concert on Monday. That one should really get us in the holiday mood!

Today we delivered our gifts baskets to Stonegate and Ernesteins Women's Shelter (grade 7 & 8). Both organizations were truly appreciative of your generosity. A special thank you to Mrs. DELonghi and Mrs. Painting as they were instrumental in this very big undertaking. Also, to Chelsea and Carly for your leadership in this project. You too should be proud of your efforts.

Have a great weekend and we'll see you for carol singing next week.

You can tell the holiday season is around the corner. The sounds coming from the music room are so wonderful to hear as I pass by. The kids have been learning songs that represent how a variety of cultures celebrate the holidays and New Year. We are looking forward to seeing you next week so we can celebrate as an LKS community. Please remember to bring a canned food item as Ms. Walker has organized a small food drive for Second Harvest.

On the giving note, thanks to all of you have contributed to your class "laundry basket". The families at Stonegate and the Women's Shelter (Grade 7 & 8) will have a good holiday and winter because of your generosity. We actually used our donation drive as a great example of empathy for others at our intermediate Sharing Assembly on Wednesday.

This is a really busy time for many of our grade 8 students and parents. Many students are applying to specialized programs and private schools for a variety of different reasons. This application process really can be a stressful time for the family. While many of our students will be accepted into these desired programs, some will be rejected or be put on a waiting list. As a parent you will have to have a few tools to cope with this rejection. I went on-line to get you more advice, but I'm still searching for a great link. Hopefully, I can send that next week. Meanwhile, you may want to consider the following if dealing with rejection in general:

1. Allow for your child to show emotion-sad, anger, resentment, fear etc.
2. Listen attentively and validate your child's feelings.
3. Provide some reassurance and reinforce a positive self-esteem.
4. Use positive language-Tell them you love them and that you are proud of them.
5. Keep things in perceptive and model a balanced approach.

Hope this helps and let us know if we too can help.

Have a nice weekend.
