Thank you for helping us recognize our students for their wonderful "teamwork" today at the Sharing Assemblies. Teamwork is the character trait that we are celebrating this month.

We are very excited as we have been awarded a grant of ten thousand dollars from the Board to paint our school. Last year, we got an estimate to have the school painted as we are in desperate need of a fresh coat of paint. The cost to paint the school is approximately $55 000, so the ten will allow us to do some work. The painters are returning soon to let us know what scope of work can be completed. Some of the students and staff have been involved with the colour choice and I'll be asking for a parent volunteer at Parent Council.

On the renovation note, we will also begin our artificial turf work in the Spring.

Looking forward to Kindergarten Registration next week. Have a great weekend everyone!

Parent Night Cancelled

Thank you to for all the warm wishes as I was off for most of last week sick. I've been in bed recovering from a bad bout of bronchitis that started the first week back. Antibiotics are my best friend right now!

I'm sorry I didn't get a chance to blog last week. I do want to remind you that the Parent Information Night on Child Anxiety has been cancelled as the presenter is ill. We will try to reschedule this evening.

I also wanted to pass along two resources that might be helpful to our community. Recently, another family in our school experienced the death of a parent and our hearts continue to go out to the family. We all know the impact this can have on the family and the community. Some of you have asked for some help when talking to your children about death and grieving. Two good resources are, Lifetimes-The Beautiful Way to Explain Death To Children (Bryan Mellinie) and Saying Goodbye-How Families Can Find Renewal Through Loss (Barbaro Okun and Joseph Nowinski). Both are good starting points for discussion. If you would like more assistance, please call me at the school and/or our guidance counsellor Rebecca Forte. Let me know if I can do something for you.

Congratulations to Lily for being the top speller in our Spelling Bee. Thank you to Mr. Lanis for organizing our first Spelling Bee at LKS! It was great to provide another opportunity for the students to "shine" in front of an audience. Congratulations to all the participants as you showed us what it takes to achieve excellence.

Shortly, a letter will be coming home from Parent Council regarding Springfest. As of yet, we have no chair of the committee and only a few volunteers who have said they would be willing to help out. If you have time, please consider helping out this year as we are a bit concerned there will be no event. Thanks for your support.

I hope everyone has a great weekend!

Welcome back to school and Happy New Year! I trust you had a wonderful holiday celebrating with your family and friends. We still have a few kids away, but the majority are back ready to begin a fresh term. Keep well as the flu seems to be hitting hard again.

Congratulations to our Hockey Team as they won the South West Bruce Davis Cup at the Mastercard Centre this past Wednesday. Our interschool hockey and houseleague will continue over the next couple of months. Thanks to Mr. Bracht and Mr. Lanis for coaching.

Just a reminder that all kids may eat lunch at school in the lunchroom. We normally go outside for supervised play around 12:00 or so depending on the weather.

There is a PA Day on January 21st. The teachers will be working on long range plans and writing report cards.

Kindergarten Registration will take place on February 2nd and 3rd. Please call the school at 416-394-7890 for an appointment. We do not have all day (full-time) kindergarten next year.
