Welcome Back!

I hope everyone had a great summer and welcome back to school. A big welcome to our new families. We are really excited about the new school year.

This is just a reminder that the first day back is next Tuesday and school begins at 8:45 a.m. for all students, except our kindergartens who will have their open houses in the morning and the afternoon. All students in grades one to three will meet on the east side of the school, the grade 4-6 students will gather by the front doors and the intermediates will meet their teachers by the north doors. Please stand behind the chair that has the name of your teacher.

On the first day back, you will receive a letter/package that should be completed and returned by Friday. It is important that we get all forms back as we need to process them the following week.

We have been busy registering new families and saying goodbye to others. Please remember that the first couple of weeks are designated as "reorganization" weeks as the numbers tend to fluctuate and we have to stay within our ministry capacity in the primary grades. We will work closely with our Board officials and let you know details as they unfold. For the past three years, we have had to move some students within the first week, but we try hard to have as little disruption as possible.

Finally, most students are so excited to get back to school, but please remember that not all students share in this feeling. Rather, some may feel quite anxious about the whole thing. Sometimes change can be a bit frightening. You know your child best, and sometimes the best thing is to really listen and verify what he/she is saying and feeling. By listening, you are validating your child's feelings and furthermore, developing trust in your relationship. Sometimes sharing a moment that has made you nervous and apprehensive also validates his/her feelings and it may make your child feel some sort of reassurance knowing that other people have had similar experiences. In majority of cases, the children really do begin to feel quite comfortable and relaxed quickly. Just give them a few days. If your child is experiencing some "anxiety" about returning, please don't hesitate to inform the homeroom teacher. If there is anything I can do, or Mr. Lanis, please do not hesitate to ask.

I hope you have a great long weekend, and we will see you on Tuesday.
