Heat

Just a quick reminder to please make sure the students have water bottles, sunscreen and hats for outside play. It is so hot today, and we are reminding the students to take drinks. The breeze is actually quite nice during outside play. The air conditioner is still broken but we've got lots of fans going and teachers are finding the coolest parts of the school to provide lessons. Hopefully it gets a bit cooler over the next couple of days.

Thanks you to the Student Council for welcoming the community for coffee and muffins on Tuesday morning. It was our way of thanking all of you for volunteering and contributing to the school. If you are interested in volunteering next year, please see Sophie or Jeanie in the office for the form you will need for the criminal background check.

Don't forget to read the Bulletin this week! I sent the Year End Newsletter, 2016-2017 Day Schedule and Calendar.

Safety

Toronto Police notified TDSB schools about an incident that was reported to have happened near Jane and Dundas. A 14 year-old girl was walking in the Jane-Dundas area when she was approached by a man in a vehicle who asked the girl to enter the vehicle. The student did exactly the right thing in not responding to the man and quickly removing herself from the situation. The girl then made her way home where she reported what had happened. Police were contacted and are investigating.

A description of the man is not available but police are looking for a black vehicle, possibly a Dodge Jeep with a licence plate that may be BCCA 326. According to police, another similar incident was earlier reported to have happened involving a vehicle fitting that same description. Anyone who might have information about either incident, or who sees a vehicle fitting this description is asked to contact police through Crime Stoppers at 416-222 TIPS (8477), or online at www.222tips.com. If the driver appears to be doing anything suspicious or criminal, please call 9-1-1.

This week, we hosted a parent workshop on social media. Debbie Gordon, the presenter shared current trends and patterns in children's usage of social media. Please visit the following link for more information and tips for parents: http://www.hashtagbrandofme.com/.

I'd like to thank Ms. Santiago and Mrs. Hall for accompanying the Folk Dance Club to Gracefield P.S last night to participate in the Festival. We had a great time. I'd like to extend a big congratulations to our students as they've been practising with us from February to prepare for last night. They showed commitment and great LKS spirit!

Another big congratulations to the Student Council as they are hosting our LKS Olympics for our grade 1-5 students this coming Friday. It should prove to be a great day!

The next few weeks are going to be very busy, both inside and outside the classroom. Teachers continue to program, review concepts with the students and finalize assessments and evaluations to write report cards.

Report cards go home on Monday, June 27th at the end of the day. Reports will not be given out any earlier, nor are they mailed. If you are not here at the end of the year, you can pick them up in the office until July 7, 2016 or starting August 29th when the office reopens. You may also get someone else to pick up the report as long as you write a note giving the teacher and/or office permission to release it.

There is a Professional Activity Day next Friday. The teachers will be marking and writing report cards. There is no school.

Have a great weekend.
