Mme Locicero

We'd like to announce that Mme Locicero has decided to retire. We would like to thank her for her commitment to the French program, her students and colleagues. Mme worked diligently over the last few years to update our French resources, including our new French books, in order to improve the students' oral and reading skills. Mme Locicero's experience and love of learning will be missed on staff. We are currently interviewing for a replacement. We will blog more details on Friday.

Thanks to all of you for attending Curriculum Night on Thursday. To follow up on the evening, you can access the grade team's long range plans on the website after Monday.

Again, the major focus for us over the next few years will continue not only to purchase new IT hardware and software, but to use it effectively in the classroom to improve student achievement. Staff are committed to improve their skills by participating in professional development in order to be the best that we can be in this area.

I hope you enjoy the weekend everyone!

Rembrance Day

I'm just trying to do a little pre-planning for our Remembrance Day Assembly. If anyone in the community knows of a veteran who could speak at our assembly, could you please call me at the school @ 394-7890.

September 17th

This week has gone by so quickly. I can't believe it is Friday already. It seems like we are settling into our routines now. A sure sign of Fall for me is when I see the kids out for cross-country, softball and football. Those early morning practices have been quite cold this week!

We are looking forward to seeing you on Curriculum night. The kindergarten presentations will begin at 5:30 p.m., the primary and Mr. Littlejohn's presentations are at 6:00 p.m. , staff introductions will be at 6:30 p.m. and the junior and intermediate staff will present at 7:00 p.m. Please check your teacher's blog, website or email for locations or on our website under notices.

We also want to thank you very much for volunteering in the school. You do so much for us. If you are going to volunteer in any capacity, please come to the office to pick up a police reference check. If you already had a check done, you'll need to visit Mrs. Stefanowicz in the office to complete the annual declaration on-line. Every volunteer must have a police reference check. Thank you in advance. Please visit our website under notices for further information.

This year, the Ministry has created a new process for our reporting procedures. You will receive one Progress Report in November, followed by two standard Report Cards in February and June. Parent/Teacher Interviews will still be scheduled in November and February. Senior Kindergarten Reports will be sent home in November, Junior Reports in February and both JK/SK students receive a final report in June.

September 10th

Thank you for a wonderful week. It was really nice catching up with many of you.

As some of you know we didn't have a big "realignment", but we did shuffle some students around so we now only have one grade 1/2 split and the other split was made a straight one. Currently, we have 722 students. We still have families away and some registering, so that number will fluctuate a bit.

We have almost completed our staffing. We'd like to welcome Mr. Pashko who will be replacing Mme Freitas, our grade 6-8 French teacher, until February. We would also like to welcome Mrs. Whale and Mrs. Scott-Mackey, our new classroom assistants.

Have a great weekend everyone!
P.S. If you have a child running in Cross-Country, we aren't meeting at 7:30 in the morning...be there around 8:45 or so. Thanks.

From Parent Council...

Hello Parents,

We currently have many of the grade parent positions filled, however; we still have a few gaps. If you can help with this rewarding experience, please contact Diane Kress 416-236-1477 or dkress@thinknet.com.

For those new to the school a grade parent administers and helps organize class and school events. Helping with these tasks enriches the students' learning experience by allowing teachers to focus on their students instead of administrative tasks. Activities generally include:distributing the class contact list upon permission from the parents and teacher; recruiting volunteers for activities according to the teacher's needs; recruiting volunteers for Parent Council fundraising activities or LKS functions and informing class parents of upcoming LKS and classroom events via email.

Welcome Back!

Welcome back to school everyone! I hope you had a great summer. We are really looking forward to seeing the kids on Tuesday. Hopefully they are excited about coming to school also. A special welcome to all the new families in the community.

Please note that school will begin at 8:45 a.m. The students should arrive a few minutes early and line up behind the appropriate chair. Staff will be there to meet the students about 10 minutes before the bell.

The kindergarten Open House runs from 10:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. and from 1:00 p.m.- 2:00p.m. on the 7th.

September Forms will be sent home on Tuesday. There is one newsletter and a parent signature page. Please return the signature page by the 10th.

As many of you know, repairs have started on our roof. We have continued to have leaks throughout the years, and the Board is committed to solve this very important issue. In addition, our artificial turf has been officially approved. The designs have been passed to our Board's construction department to begin the planning process. We will let you know when the process will begin.
