Thursday, February 25, 2016

On Monday, our grade 6 students participated in a presentation from Brian Cheaney from Cosmic Connections. The topic was on Astronomy, a unit of study. After learning about constellations and the stars, the kids had the opportunity to observe the sun through a telescope. Many parents and their children returned at night for another presentation and a peek at the moon. A big thank you to Ms. Chandra, our middle school science teacher, who organized this event. We've never had this type of workshop and it was a big hit!

Thank you to all the parents who attended Parent Council on Monday night. Please don't forget to check out their new website as it contains lots of information - http://lksparentcouncil.com/ Just a gentle reminder that PC continues to search for volunteers to help with Springfest. Again, please sign up through the website. Springfest is such an important tradition in the community and it continues to be a favourite for the children. Monies raised at the event goes towards funding operating budgets.

I posted some information for you on the weekly Bulletin regarding concussions. If your child has suffered from a concussion, please make sure you come to the office to complete paperwork required to return to physical activity.

Finally, I'd also like to thank everyone who wore Pink on the 24th in support of creating awareness around bullying! For more information, please see http://pinkshirtday.ca/

Have a great weekend everyone.

Heat

Good news-we have heat! See you in the morning.

Boiler

TDSB will be here within the hour to continue work on the boilers so we will have more heat in the morning.

Boiler

The boiler is still being worked on. Although most classrooms are at a decent temperature, some teachers may bring their classes to the lunchroom where it is warmer until the heat is fully restored.

Tuesday, February 16' 2016

I hope you had a great weekend. We arrived at school with a broken boiler so it is a bit cold, but manageable. It is getting fixed and the full heat should be returning in the next half an hour. Thank you.

Wednesday, February 10, 2016

I'm publishing a couple of days early as we have a PA Day on Friday. I'm also in between watching our senior boys basketball tournament as we are hosting. They are playing really well; very entertaining!

We have had such a busy week and you can tell the students are very excited about all the special events and the upcoming Family Day weekend. We've celebrated Groundhog Day, 100's Day and Valentine's Day. We will also be hosting our middle school dance tomorrow and we finished our grade 4 to 6 European Handball Tournament in Houseleague. Congratulations to Team 3 for a gracious win and undefeated round robin.

It was great seeing so many of you this week whether you volunteered for Kindergarten Registration or interviews. In addition, thank you to those who have already brought in items for the Syrian family; you are such a generous community.

We also thank the Mayhew family for the couch donation to the office. We had to dispose of our relic as it had seen better days.

I wanted to bring to your attention a Walk-In Clinic Counselling Service for children that is free. No referrals or appointments are required and they can be reached at 416-240-1111. It's been a great resource to the community.

Thursday, February 4, 2016

This week, "X Movement" (formerly Aussie X), provided dance workshops for our student body. The students were exposed to a variety of dances steps and routines. In addition, the workshop focused on dances from different cultures and mindfulness techniques. It really was a great experience and we'd like to thank Parent Council for funding the project. Thank you to Mr. Bracht for organizing this for the students.

Your child will be bringing home their report cards tomorrow and we will see some of you next week during interviews.

Thank you to all the parents who will be volunteering during Kindergarten Registration next week.
