It's been an interesting week at LKS starting with a burst sprinkler on Monday resulting in flooding of the hallway, computer lab and library. The good news is that the damage was limited, except Ms. Norton's office-again! Unfortunately, many tiles have been removed for the warm air to circulate to help prevent frozen pipes. As s a result the temperature is much colder, especially upstairs. We will continue to use space heaters as they continue to work on the roof.

Over the last couple of blogs, I've been reviewing our School Improvement Plan. Today, I will summarize the initiatives under the Pathway category; namely the work being done to transition students at exit and entry points in their schooling. So far we have achieved the following:

-Kindergarten teachers and support staff have attended numerous workshops on the inquiry-based classroom
-Kindergarten teachers have visited other kindergarten teachers to share best practices
-Kindergarten and Grade 8 teachers have collaborated on program strategies with Early Year's Instructional Leader and the Guidance counselor respectively
-Information night scheduled in March for new kindergarten parents
-staff and parent council create welcoming environment as they organize kindergarten registration
-scheduled Open House for kindergarten students in early September
-staff attend divisional and team meetings to co-plan
-middle school staff will be attending transition meetings in the spring to ensure a smooth entry into secondary school
-some grade 8 students will participate in local leadership opportunities
-intermediate staff have membership to Middle School Association

Thanks to all the parents who attended today's Kindergarten assembly. I hope everyone has a great weekend.
